Questions about Hair Restoration and Replacement

Hair Transplant and Restoration for Las Vegas, Henderson, & Nearby Areas in Nevada

What Sets Dr. Brown Apart?

There are many choices when it comes to hair transplant surgeons along with various extraction techniques. Hair Transplant Vegas should be your first choice because of the hair restoration expertise, experience, and perfection Dr. Brown brings to every patient.

Dr. Steve Brown was the first micro-surgical hair surgeon in Nevada to offer NeoGraft, and now offers NeoGraft 2.0. He has performed the hair restoration procedure on a vast number of patients including performers, reality stars, professionals, athletes, and students who have benefited from his expertise. The common thread for these patients is that discretion, concealment, and a quick return to work without others knowing of the procedure was of the utmost importance and will be the same for you.

Dr. Brown is completely involved with the procedure from the initial consultation, design, extraction, and placement of the grafts. This is in contrast to many other physicians who have purchased the NeoGraft® machine as a business tool and have little contact with their patients outside of selling the procedure and general oversight during the transplant. These physicians bring in “NeoGraft® Technicians” who do the bulk of the procedure and have no certifications. Even worse these technicians rotate around the country so results vary greatly.

Dr. Brown has used the same technician for numerous years and who only assists Dr. Brown with the procedure. He is specifically trained by Dr. Brown for this unique technique and you can rest assured that your hair transplant will be done only by Dr. Brown, with help from his technician only during re-implantation. Your result and satisfaction is of the utmost importance and goal.

What Does NeoGraft® Do?

The NeoGraft® machine is a revolutionary automated hair transplant machine that assists the doctor in performing a hair transplant using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique, the latest hair transplant technology to date. The FUE technique is less invasive than the traditional strip method used by most doctors today. With the FUE technique there is no cutting of the scalp as there is with the strip method. Since there is no cutting there is no suturing, no visible linear scarring, very little bleeding, minimal risk of nerve damage and a faster recovery time.

What Is An FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE is the most recently developed hair restoration procedure that does not involve any incisions like the strip method still used by most doctors today. The FUE method is the removal of individual hair follicles from the scalp, in their naturally occurring groupings of about 1-4 hairs. The follicles are then transplanted into the balding area. The FUE Transplant procedure was introduced in 2002. It is the least invasive procedure, with the fewest complications and the end result is an excellent, natural look.

Why FUE?

Performing hair transplantation using the FUE method without NeoGraft® is very time consuming and is therefore more costly. Most doctors feel patients will not want to pay for this procedure so they do not promote it. Also doctors need additional training to perform this procedure and many are reluctant to obtain further training.

Most offices are more comfortable with the traditional strip method since it is quicker to perform. For these reasons, most doctors do not offer a complete transplant using the FUE method. Some doctors may offer to use the FUE method on small areas such as filling in a hairline where few follicles are needed. However, most doctors, once they learn about the benefits of the FUE method, understand that it is more beneficial for the patient, since it is a much less invasive procedure. Not all patients are suitable for the FUE procedure, but NeoGraft® allows a larger proportion of patients to have the FUE procedure.

The NeoGraft® machine brings down the cost of doing the FUE procedure because the procedure time is shortened and there is no need for the many technicians as there is when doing a manual FUE hair transplant. The reduced costs can be passed on to the patient, allowing more people to have the FUE procedure.

What Are The Advantages Of Using An Automated Device?

There are many advantages. Our device allows more individuals to be candidates for the FUE method of transplantation. Performing FUE by hand limits the number of people who can have this technique because of the time factor which raises the cost. Furthermore, some people have certain physical conditions such as deeply embedded follicles, thicker skin, or tougher skin and it is sometimes difficult to take out the grafts without damaging them.

NeoGraft® uses controlled pneumatic pressure (suction) to slide out the follicle smoothly, so there is not the pulling and twisting with tweezers which puts the follicle at risk for damage. These conditions often eliminate individuals from being good candidates for the FUE method. The follicles extracted by the contra-angled tool are of an excellent quality. Also, the transplant procedure is faster with the NeoGraft®, the follicles can be re-implanted sooner which keeps them more robust, increasing the success of the grafting process. NeoGraft® maximizes consistency and quality of the transplanted graft and maximizes follicular survival and growth.

What About Strip (FUT) Excision?

Strip excision or FUT, is the traditional transplant procedure used by most doctors today where a strip of skin is removed from the donor site at the back of the patient’s head. One of the major drawbacks to this procedures is the incision is sutured together leaving a linear scar. The scar may enlarge over time to overcome the tension of the skin created by cutting a strip and suturing the scalp together. Patients experience pain with the strip method of hair transplant surgery and medicine is prescribed for the pain.

With the FUE technique, only the individual hair follicle is removed. There is no dissection of skin or stitches. The small wound made when the follicle is extracted contracts as it heals and may leave a small white spot or scar. This typically is not visible within a few days of hair growth. With the strip procedure there is an incision and a linear scar. With the NeoGraft®, more people qualify for the FUE method, which is less invasive and has less possible complications. Your doctor will decide whether you are eligible for the FUE procedure.

Is a Hair Transplant Safe?

From a surgical standpoint, a hair transplant is very safe. It is a relatively minor surgical procedure. An FUE transplant is performed under local anesthetic, and does not require intravenous or intra-muscular sedation. With Dr. Brown’s experience in anesthesiology and patient monitoring, safety is of the utmost concern. Dr. Brown uses state of the art patient monitors which allows him to feel comfortable working on patients with more involved medical issues. With FUE the patient is awake during the procedure, and can watch TV, listen to music, and converse with the doctor and team.

Is FUE Hair Transplantation Painful?

The NeoGraft® hair restoration procedure is a superior technique in minimizing pain and discomfort. Instead of a large linear incision seen during the strip techniques, small punch sizes are used to decrease post procedural pain. Additionally, special long acting local anesthetics with PH neutralizing additives are used along with cooling devices for the skin as not to feel the injections. We also are unique in offering nitrous oxide anesthesia during the injections should you request the ultimate in a pain-free, anxiety-free experience. A majority of patients claim little to no discomfort during the procedure and minimal pain afterwards.

What Are The Possible Complications?

FUE Hair Transplant surgery is considered a minor procedure. There are rarely complications and Dr. Brown easily treats any that may occur. With strip surgery more complications can occur, such as infections, excessive scarring, a feeling of tightness of the scalp, hair loss in the scar area, nerve pain, bleeding, as well as a chance of damage to the occipital or temporal blood vessels.

When Can I Go Back To Work?

Dr. Brown generally recommends at a minimum taking the next day off, though many patients return to work the next day. A loose fitting baseball type cap can be worn after surgery. Many patients decide to combine the transplant with a vacation, and fly out of town for a week of rest and relaxation. We do not recommend traveling for at least 5 days after the procedure as the follicles can be dislodged and lost if not careful. By the time you return to work, it will be hard to detect you had the procedure.

When Will My Newly Transplanted Hair Start To Grow?

Normally it takes between three to five months following surgery before the transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair, though it is not uncommon to see immediate hair growth. During the first three months expect your hair to look the thinnest as there can be additional temporary hair loss during this time period. You will see full growth in about a year.

What Is The Cost Of Hair Transplantation?

At Hair Transplant Vegas the cost of your restoration procedure will depend on the number of grafts to be transplanted to cover the desired areas along with the appropriate density. Dr. Brown will be able to give you an estimate of the number of grafts needed to optimize your results when he sees you during your consultation. Cost is always a concern and we at Hair Transplant Vegas can offer the most competitive rates in the country for this exciting procedure. This coupled with a world class destination make booking the procedure with us a winning combination.

How Many Sessions Will Be Required?

The number of sessions required will depend on how many total numbers of grafts are to be transplanted. With each NeoGraft® session we can transplant up to 2,500 grafts consisting of multiple hair follicles. Therefore, additional sessions may be required. The number of sessions will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Brown. If additional sessions are needed to increase density or concentrate on other areas we typically space them apart by 9-12 months. Additional procedures are most common during a hairline lowering procedure to increase the density of the new hairline or in African-American patients as each transplant sesion is typically smaller due to the difficulty in extacting follicules because of the extreme curl.

How Many Grafts/Hairs Will I Need?

The amount of grafts you will need ultimately depends on your degree of hair loss and on how dense your donor hair is at the back. Dr. Brown typically finds that 1,500-2,000 grafts consisting of multiple hair follicles is sufficient for the hairline/mid scalp area or the crown.

Will My Hair Restoration Really Look Natural?

Yes, the only people who know will be those you tell.

Dr. Brown is a perfectionist, and he takse great pride in striving for a natural look, whether it be the hairline, crown, mid scalp, or eyebrows. To assure a natural look, we start with only the grafts as they naturally grow, called the follicular unit. NeoGraft® assures this basic unit as that is how the grafts are extracted. All grafts are separated under magnification to guarantee single follicular units in the hairline for a soft, natural look, and multiple hair follicular units further back for density. Additionally, every site that we make for placement is done under magnification and follows the natural angle, direction, and spacing of the existing hairs around it. Our dedication to detail assures a natural result.
